sorry for the really slow updates. i've been busy with preparing for school, enjoying the rest of my holidays, plus having school.

it just started this week, so.. sigh.

fashion aside, i've been spending my time watching glee!

Glee's a show from Fox about a high school show choir known as the glee club. there's lea michele as rachel berry, the really strong and diva-esque nerd as the female lead and cory monteith as the cool jock and most popular guy in school, finn hudson. and both joined the glee club somehow, along with the rest of the cast. i LOVE their chemistry, but its really fucked up because finn thinks he knocked up his girlfrie

nd, quinn in the hot tub, although they had their bathing suits on, when actually she got pregnant after having sex with HIS best friend.

weird? very.

alright, i wanted to blog here for a reason. i havent been getting into the mood and inspiration to dress up recently. blame my growing love for basics, which basically means i'm getting lazy to dress up. everyday's a basic top and denim shorts with flip flops to school. this past week in school proved it, my lecturer look at my ipanema slippers, shook her head and asked me where my 'retro' style went to.

i dont have a retro style in the first place!

but then again, i've acquired some really awesome stuff while thrifting recently. recently, there was a major topman and topshop sale going on. i was out shopping at ion with my mum and my brother and we saw this really great awesome looking plaid/checkered longsleeved shirt from topman. the colours were so nice, and it blended well together. moreover, its 79 bucks down to 39, so.. i was considering whether i should get it. but then again, i never spend even 15 bucks on a shirt :(

the next day, i went to the thrift shop at the simei daycare centre after my checkup at changi general hospital the other time, and i found a plaid shirt in a blue/beige/white combination. 4 dollars. i bought it immediately.

they have an online thrift shop which they display the stuff that just came in! the bowling bag in the second picture looks tempting in the second picture :) :) not sure if you can purchase it online though.

as you know, i got my crochet top which is found it so many blogshops and runways over there at 4 bucks. i'm going to go back there again and ransack the place again.

i know, i know. everybody around the world (and especially in singapore, after the fever of YSL and chanel logos caught up in the online shopping and DIY world - just check out flashlightbatteriess) but honestly, i havent tried it yet.
simple enough, everybody knows i am very into basics. a plain white cotton tee or tank paired with low rised or highwaisted shorts, whatever suits my mood (and the comfort of the down there - sometimes highwaisted shorts give really bad wedgies). all i have to do is to get a black permanent marker and draw.
NOOOOO NOW THERE'S AN EVEN EASIER OPTION. just use my brother's leftover black spray cans and sprayyy.

the holidays are ending, the new school semester's starting, and honestly, other than the major flea market i participated in back in september, i havent been doing a whole lot of DIY. simply because my holidays literally flew past and i have been finding myself stoning at home rotten, in front of the computer doing absolutely nothing. either its facebook, reading tweets on twitter or watching glee (watch it. oh gosh i love cory monteith).
so i havent been really going out and doing fun things.

a kitten crawled into our house and crept around silently, even though we barred the front door with pokey nettings. i fell in love at the sight of this kitty, and i fed her milk, stroked her really soft fur, and she didnt bite me at all.
but then i realized i have another puppy who's probably going to be jealous that all the love i have for him is going to have to be shared with that.. young thing he's born to hate.
so i experimented. i sayang-ed (its malay for darling. but i'm using it in a context where i stroke the cat's fur lovingly) the kitty and he didnt bother about jealousy. fun and excitement of a new animal in the house was more than enough for him.
too bad we had to let her go. she was a stray, and not a government stray either. she now lives at the top staircase of my flat's level. :(

we went to a dramabox rehearsal for migrant workers at a place somewhere in aljunied. its a community centre-typed of place where there's facilities for.. ya. okay, i'm trying to sound smart here but i dont know what it is used for. HAHAHA. i tagged along with my friends and fell in love with the place.
look at the courtyard! i took a million and one pictures with my lomo fisheye 2. i cant wait to develop it.
(digressing, i calculated and it costs around 70 cents per shot with film. 5 dollars for the film, 19 for the developing including the prints and the CD)

thrift store alert! its a GEM of a place. its not a very big place, but there are books, clothings, bags. i almost bought this really nice checkered-ish tote bag but there was some golf club logo on it. blah. and they're selling macdonalds playdoh sets (I LOVE THOSE. i remember playing them so so much back when i was younger), this cute little backpack, racks of stuff and a netball. hahahahaha i almost wanted to buy the netball.

btw, its at the health serve centre if you want to make your way there. find it on a local map. :)

i didnt buy much, just a white crocheted knitted sweater which was brand new with tag for 4 bucks. white and black knitted sweaters are.. oh my god. i dont know if they're in trend but i saw quite a few blogs posting them up. maybe i'm slow but i got a nice brand new piece at 4 dollars. :)

joween got a jumpsuit and a black knitted sweater. i feel happy. :)

anyway, i realized how lucky i am to have followers to my blog. i never expected to have any and i'm quite happy to have people giving really nice and constructive comments on my posts. i never intended to make this blog a big thing - i didnt advertise this blog anywhere - but i guess some people somehow found out about it.

i'm still in my diy-ing mode. i'm going to get inspired.

this is erin wasson's runway exhibitions. i particularly like the last two. i've been making cropped tees for the past few months because i have tons of tees i no longer want, ala forever21 pieces minus the costs. its free, people. oh right, its cheaper than freepeople.com too. (joke, joke. get it?)
and as for the oversized one, i have one stussy sweatshirt i got from a flea. this really rich guy from the rich marine parade area sold this hundred-over dollar piece to me at 17 bucks. and i look like a retard with sleeves going way over my hands. i'm going to try this style tomorrow, wherever i'm going.

i think i can safely say that i never really was a fan of the olsen twins. true, i grew up reading two of a kind, adventures of.. and so little time, i read two of their autobiographies, but i never really liked it the moment they grew up. maybe its all the media hounding which caused them to be that way, or maybe they were portrayed in a bad light, and i was sold to the media.
i hated the way i saw marykate and her extremely skinny frame, ashley and her extremely skinny frame, especially when they were role models for people like me, girls who were growing up and getting very aware of their bodies and how they looked like. so if there is so much news about how marykate checked into rehab for anorexia nervosa, then how much will it affect younger girls, thinking that they're too fat, they're too overweight, and they start starving themselves?

but this, ashley's an adult now. albeit petite, she looks gorgeous and womanly in this photoshoot.

amazingly i found this shirt at the thrift store the other day in mint condition. i got so happy because it actually fitted me, or at least just a little too big. i tried wearing my dad's but he's too.. well, fat. hahaha
i havent been labelling my posts in a long time because blogger's just screwing up so bad for me. i dont know whether its just my mac where it causes my facebook and blogger to SUCK, but if it is objective is to piss me off on end for days, its working.
i should be glad though, i can actually run multiple applications at the same time. windows cant do that without lagging. mac owns pc.

anyway, i'm in singapore, and the mr scott schuman probably wouldnt come to singapore to take really nice pictures. the weather would probably spoil his camera.

anyway, i think i can understand why people dont like dressing up in singapore.

1. there arent a lot of MNG setting up famous lines in singapore. other than the usual gucci, guess, do you see those lesser-known-but-as-awesome brands in singapore? no.

2. monkey see monkey do. if someone gets lazy wear tee shirts and flip flops all day, the others would follow.

3. shopping is expensive! i totally agree, actually. i rarely go shopping, other than going to flea markets, browsing online websites like bleubirdvintage, asos, chickdowntown and pixiemarket and wondering how i can make it. all the online shops based in singapore are selling the same things they sourced from bangkok, marking the price really high and making big profits. neh, no thanks.

4. everybody dresses the same anyway. refer to point 3.

i've always loved alexander wang because he makes the most comfortable, stylish and wearable-on-the-streets fashion down the runway.
this time, its bicycle shorts. it looks so normal and everyday wear on the model, but honestly, would you dare to walk down the streets wearing stockings cut till mid-thigh and and denim shorts? people already find it so weird and ugly when girls wear three-quarter leggings because its so 'auntie'.

uhm, i havent finished with my tutorial on the studded headband yet. HAHAHA i've been busy! and now there're 5 assignments going on, and i am in charge of poly50, this annual schoolwide running competition. sigh.

i was studying.
this week was the exams week, and i initially didnt feel like updating because i still have one more major test on monday and i'm only 60% done with studying, not including revision. my health psychology test was hell, the stuff i focused on didnt even come out, most of it were the stuff that i simply read through 2 to 3 times. :(

but anyway, i decided to update anyway, because i wanted to show you guys the studded headband i did recently. i'm still pretty proud of it, and i might put up a tutorial soon (okay, studding a headband sounds stupidly simple, but i wanted to show how to use eco-friendly products. saving the world is all that matters! HAHAHA), and some outfits.

i would like to rant on this pair of shoes that i bought in bangkok. its a size too large for me but it was the last one and i reeeeally fell in love with it. this, is the most comfortable shit ever.

& i never buy threadless tees in girly m. i'm technically an m, but an xl is mucho longer and i can wear it with leggings, & covering my whoohoo. it doesnt even look that big anyway, so XL for LIFE.

and this is my new studded headband. I LOVE IT TO BITS and i did not spend a single cent on making it, except for the studs.

this is a pair of roman-inspired sandals and red multi-coloured strap sandals from need supply.
i tried finding the black pair in bangkok, but i found tons of heels for these, not flats. there was one though, but i chucked that place aside and tried looking for cheaper alternatives. i thought they could be found anywhere! :( turned out i was wrong.
i loooove this! there's a slight heel for those who want a little bit of height, but not too high till you'll tower over everyone else.

gorgeous gorgeous boots from martha davis. i will so pair this with my acid washed low-crotched jeans with rolled cuffs and a loose tank. i can even wear this in school!

yes, i'm a really slow person in this stud craze. but everyone in singapore buys them anyway, no one ever makes anything for the fun of it anymore. i know i have studded bangles and shoes and tops, but i've never studded my jeans and my blazer before.

alright, i've officially joined the Dead Bloggers Guild for not updating often enough.

but i never blog unless i'm in the mood for blogging! i'm always (and faithfully, i must say) reading my favourite blogs like seaofshoes, blushing ambition (i think she's gorgeous), apricot tea (i love her posts), final fashion etc everyday. you can check them out on my blogroll on the right side. i put it right around the top so you guys can share my favourite bloggers too :)

i'm not a blogger with a lot of words to say when it comes to fashion. i'm not someone who is trying to hard to have one, wanting everyone to read, etc etc. check out my imjanel.livejournal.com blog and i update so often its crazy, because i like blogging stuff there. when i get inspired or in the mood to blog here, i'll blog. HAHAHA. i guess i'm more of a pictures kind of girl when it comes to looking for inspiration, and blogging. i dont know why, its just like that! sorry if my blog really bores you. :( moreover, its the holidays and i've been spending the time sleeping, bloghopping, youtubing, sleeping more. and i've been quarantined at home till next wednesday, so i cant even go to school! blame it on bangkok with its 400+ cases of swine flu, and blame me for going there in the first place (but the loot i got were really awesome :D )

check it outtt. there're layers of clothing there. i spent around 400 SGD, go calculate how much it would be in baht, USD etc.

my favourite buy would be the red moccasins on the mid right. i got it for 200 baht, that's like 8 SGD, and the last one from chatuchak. i never saw it anywhere else, so it only came from that shop. other favourites would be my blur velvet flats with gold buckle. you cant see it well, but its at the top left, hidden by the brown bucket bag.
other favourites would be the black harem pants, slouchy acid wash jeans, acid wash shorts, all nice and great.

morning flight sucks. so does budget flights. but they're cheap. its like 100 bucks with taxes included. woah.

simple outfits during the entire trip. bangkok's just like singapore. hot, hot, hot. except, bangkok's air is sooo much dryer, so all of us didnt sweat much. but i kept the outfits to the minimum without showing too much (you know what i mean)

spaghetti top i got for a dollar from a flea, highwaisted cut offs, white canvas shoes (they were my neon yellow highlighted ones i talked about in my previous post, but i washed it out).

i got a lot of rings during this trip. i bought tons of accessories. i bought 7 to 8 headbands, necklaces and rings on the first day alone.

another thing i bought in bulk were studs. studs and spikes are selling them at 100 for 7USD, i got 500 for.. yeah, way cheaper.

first thing i did when i got back to the hotel room was to stud the tee i was wearing.

another thing i learnt, dont stud ribbed tees and tanks. they come out sooo easily. :(

i'll be flying to bangkok with my mum and my older brother on sunday morning. its a full 3 days worth of shopping! i am so excited okay, its been ages since i've gone on a holiday, especially when booking holidays are so common now. just pay with credit card online and you got your seat.

i fully planned where we were going already, especially the famous platinum fashion mall where everyone goes to (urgh). my brother (my first time travelling with him!) is going to get bored sick, so he'll probably go watch those ah gua (transexuals) shows. i'm not 21 yet, so...

really late photos! my holidays arent even holidays now. its filled to the brim with work, studies (i havent even started, actually) and whole lot of events happening. i dont even have a day to chill and watch TV (wait, i dont watch TV).

i'm falling in love with this pair of studded ballet shoes from bonadrag. i have a pair of ballet shoes at home, under a pile of many other shoes, having not seen the world in a very long time since i last wore it for a church dance performance.

i feel like digging it out, studding it and wearing it out now. its so beautiful.
but thing is, how is it going to last the weather? the soles are so thin, what if it rains?

the photos arent really clear, but its my out blue and white striped oversized tee. i finally hacked off the sleeves because its such a pain folding it up, and now its a normal tee because the shoulder bit is large enough to cover my arms.

and i finally pulled out my denim skirt to wear again! everyone seems to hate denim skirts now that the skinny/leggings/highwaisted shorts thing is in the trend now, but i always have my trusty ezra fitch skirt. :)

so i tucked in the tee and left a bit of it hanging out, wore my brown oxfords and new backpack.

i havent been buying shades since the day i was born because i spent more than half of my life behind glasses. uncool, yes. geeky, yes.

so when i started wearing contacts and actually getting into the habit of it a month ago, i've been blinded by the hot Singapore sun a countless number of times, everytime i step out of the house and when i'm walking along the streets.

i need to invest in a pair of good sunnies, pronto.

tutorial : rodarte-inspired denim pleated skirt.

hey hey, this is a tutorial on the rodarte dress that was recently sold through Project Blue, which the proceeds went to Oceana. this piece is actually a dress, the top and bottom are sewn together as a one-piece, but i'm going to do a tutorial on just the skirt. this way its more versatile, you can pair it with many other tops for the desired combination.

what you'll need.

a sewing machine.

5 to 6 denim jeans. you're going to be using the legs of the jeans.

a fan. its going to be very hot :( the weather's so humid nowadays!

chalk, ruler with a 90 degree angle marking, and a pair of fabric scissors.

how to.

1. cut off the legs of the jeans. use the top as a pair of shorts or save it for another project.

2. cut off the bottom hem of the jeans leg.

3. remove the seams of both sides of each leg. just snip it out, you neednt use a seam ripper.

4. measure using the ruler 90 degrees, mark the entire length with chalk, and cut to get a rectangle like this :

5. repeat the step for all the other legs of the jeans.

6. position all the widths of the rectangles till you get a length of 50 inches.

7. pin all the insides of the rectangle panels together and cut the extra strips off till you get a total length of 19 inches down for all rectangle panels. this will be the length of your skirt (for now).

8. sew all the rectangular panels together.

9. iron the seams flat.

10. sew both ends of the entire bit of cloth. trim both sides till you get an even line.

11. pleat the several parts of the top of the skirt (take one side and fold it over 1 or 2 inches over) and pin vertically.

12. measure your natural waistline and subtract 2 inches. cut off that amount of elastic band. (eg. my waist is 24 inches, i will snip 22 inches worth of elastic).

13. sew the elastic an inch below the top of the skirt, taking off the pins as you go. you're aiming to do a runched bit, so pull a little bit of the elastic, sew, pull, sew. sew on and forth. you'll get the hang of it (i did. it was my first time trying. hahahaha)

14. cut off all loose threads. flip the skirt over and try it on.

15. optional : cut off the bottom of the skirt to your desired length. dont hem it, leave it as it is. that's the awesome thing about denim. :)

this is my finished product. it looks awesome!

and i must have tried it on three different fabrics, but none came out with the outcome i desired. the stretchy knit was too weird, the normal jersey knit stretched too much, and the soft knit broke apart after awhile. :(

i wish i can do it properly.

my new inspiration. its an event called Project Blue, where a few famous designers like alexander wang (my best friend :) ), bottega veneta and stella mccartney were given tons of denim to create a unique piece of art to be sold, and the proceeds went to benefit the clean-water advocacy group Oceana.
this particular piece by rodarte brought in the highest amount of money, and it is so pretty. i have tons of denim left over, and i'm going to try and make this. :)

hello hello!
i havent been updating much the past few days because i've been so busy with school, work and touch rugby. its my new CCA, along with my new position in the CASS club as a deputy sports head.
its cool, because i think i need all the fitness and healthy lifestyle thingamajic things that i can now, before my organs start to fail and i die before 50...

okay, touch wood.
moving on, i love my new pair of shoes. i bought this really comfortable yet cheap-assed shoe for $9.90 somewhere in simei, took a yellow highlighter and kind of painted the entire canvas yellow. now i got some great yellow neon shoes for 10 bucks.

it was an awesome day thrifting with Charmaine. :)
we went to the bukit timah store & the serangoon store. it was okayyy, not bad but not as fabulous as i thought it would be.

this is my outfit for today. raybans, navy blue tank, denim shorts, and a huuuuuuuuuuge vintage messenger briefcase i thrifted two or three days ago for 12 bucks. its so roomy i could fit shoeboxes, bags of clothes, and my own stuff inside. according to the auntie, this was used by businessmen on their overnight business trips. ooo.

the ever small and petite charmaine. she makes my face looks so big. :(

the bukit timah store. we browsed for 10 minutes and went out empty-handed. a total let-down.

on our way to serangoon. we travelled quite a lot, the places are so secluded and ulu. :(

the serangoon thrift store. two whole storeys of goodies. we went crazy here btw.

BLAZERS.
there were so many! rocker-inspireds like the one charmaine's wearing, crazily gaudy ones like the one i was wearing (i spotted a super hot pink one too, but we didnt snap pictures of it), and more business-type jackets. i dont know why girls like to spend 30 bucks and above on plain black blazers online when there are tons of them lying around in awesome thrift shops for 20 and below. and the ones that are 20 are branded. think marks & spencers (mine was 3 though), elizabeth arden, etc etc.
save the earth, thrift. buy vintage. :)

two vests that are so appropriate and unique for school. 5 bucks.

i ended up buying a lot of sweaters and a totally cute belt. that was my favourite buy.
after thrifting, i went to find huiling at the shop.

these are the old, white three-quarter pants i bought online for $10 long ago. i've wanted to wear it, chickened out, sold it online, took it off the shop and kept it again.
and i finally wore it to school, along with a plain hollister top.

the cut offs basically ended awkwardly below my knees, halfway at the calves. so i rolled it up till it was above the knee lor.

cotton on tank, thrifted marks & spencer blazer, thrifted jeans, thrifted vintage bag, old black pumps.

.. i think i've been thrifting too much. HAHAHA. i dont even shop at all those UK/US shops anymore! i dont see anything i want to buy in f21 when i step in, i dont see anything i want to buy in topshop, or zara, or pull and bear, or river island, or basically any of those high-end retail stores. i'll go in, take a look while everyone is gushing over the latest acid-shiny moto denim shorts in topshop (yadah yadah yadah) and there i go, looking and fingering a top, wondering how i can make that with whatever i have in the wardrobe.

i think i'm going crazy.

anyway, i thrifted that pair of jeans for $3. sewn the insides together to make a more skinnies look, and slashed the knees a la agyness deyn. at least this time all my friends were asking me whether wolverine had one claw on each of his hands left. -.-

my most favourite buy has to be the marks & spencer blazer though. it was sitting on the racks, looking brand new, labels still intact, extra buttons sewn on the labels still intact, defectless, a UK 8 (woot!), and a totally great cut. not to mention the workmanship was marvelous.
and it was $3. :)

remember this photo of my mum back when she was 18?
it sparked off a new DIY project which i put in the shop. two awesome collections just sold within a day, with the second collection sold out in less than an hour.

i doubt i'll be bringing in more highwaisted shorts anymore. i want to maintain exclusivity for my customers who already bought from me before. and i dont want to start a fad where everybody is going to wear the same things, just like all the bugis street rubbish.

anyway, i promised you guys more photos of my mum (and my dad!) back when they were young and dating.

back then it must have been the norm to wear these sort of stuff. funny how everybody's wanting to get that vintage trend back. i for one love it, but not for the trend. its just so cool.

went to work today, it killed my eyes because the air was so dry and i was trying to read and serve customers. but i think i scared them away with my incessant blinking.

a lot of people say i never smile in my outfit photos. now i understand why you never see people like camille or rumi smiling in photographs. because its so hard!
its not for the omg-i-must-look-cool exterior, it was more of the okay-get-this-good-and-done. but okay, i'll show some photos of myself smiling since this blog is looks so murderous with my angry face.

i think the best thing about ASOS is you get to watch videos of models strutting their apparel on the runway. isnt it a great great great idea? especially when you get to look at the male models. (eyecandy. *slurp)

honestly, i think ASOS did a great job in coming up with this idea of a runway on their site. i've never seen any other shopping sites trying out this method. they should, it totally shows how the material of the clothing looks like when you're doing your daily stuff (how lightweight, how sheer/see-through/hardy/etc.)

+ they're cheap too.

the pole in my peacedrobe toppled, and it was in a mess. :( everything was all over the place. even the top layer where i wanted to place my books were in a mess.

i keep my accessories inside the striped stool there. whatever belts, scarfs, bikinis, shades i had, all chucked in there. nyeh. it got so messy and i got to irritated.

so i got..

a hanging shelf from ikea! it was 18 bucks well spent. :)

started stocking up the stuff after that. sweaters and dresses on the hangers. scarfs and bikinis at the bottom layer. leggings and stockings at the second. tons of tees at the third. basic tanks and even more tees on the fourth.
HAHAHAHA.

then my pjs and home clothing right at the back, stacked, and jeans and bottoms stacked.
and i finally got two canvas boxes where i shoved my belts in one and the rest in the other.
it looks so nice now. :)

an old church tee cut into a tank, leggings, mum's scarf (its older than me!), red converses.

i feel like i've committed a crime of the century. no, the lifetime. its my darling old church tee i cut up yesterday. :(
but i was thinking, since i dont wear it out because its too big for me (and what do i wear with an oversized but not quite oversized tee?) and the cotton material's too thick for me to wear at home (its so hot), so why not i do the most practical thing : make a tank and show everyone how I Love My King. :)

the back of the tee's a crown in a mess of orange and yellow circles. its so pretty. i ought to wear this out more often.

anyway, just to show you why i always seem to be carrying the same bags (and wearing the same shoes), i present to you my collection of vintage bags.

yes, i know how small it is. 6 measly bags which i worked hard for, saved up for, to buy at the local fleas and thrift markets. and that's including some of my mum's bags from her 70s and 80s.
by the way, just a hint, you can get awesome vintage bags (like the new one i acquired in the middle) at your local fleas for 20 bucks. you neednt even pay 100s of dollars from those high end types. you can also check out the serangoon thrift store. :)

anyway, i'll be putting some of the bags on sale tomorrow or something. i no longer feel the love for it when i have my new vintage messenger bag. :) :)

DIY : lace-up ballet flats.

hey ya! this is a how-to tutorial on a lace-up ballet flats like the one i did in my last entry. i dug an old pair that i havent worn since graduation two years ago out and did some minor twitching with it. voila! new and pretty shoes for everyday wear.
its really simple to do, and it takes around 15 minutes to complete it. really simple!

so you'll need :
1. an old pair of flats. alternatively, you can use heels too if you would like. (note : an old pair, because you'll be poking holes into it.)
2. two leather laces. you can also use ribbons too. they should be long enough to cross and wind up your calf.
3. a seam ripper and a screw to poke the holes.

so the first step is to poke a hole with the seam ripper at the back of the shoe, right in the center (or slightly to the side if they're seams. dont poke a hole through the seams!).
alternatively, you can also use a thick needle to poke a hole, but a seam ripper is sharper. :)

next, use the screw to enlarge the hole. i do this instead of just poking a scissors through, or using a hole puncher to make a hole, because you might just destroy the entire shoe or make the hole too big. using a screw, you can control your force and the size of the hole. gently screw it in, do not use too much force or you'll destroy the shape.

using the seam ripper, poke a small hole through one side of the leather string, and poke it through the hole gently. using the seam ripper, prod the leather string till the other end juts out. pull till you have two equal lengths.

repeat the entire procedure with the other shoe.

criss-cross and tie the ends at the back of your leg. tadah!

i cabbed down to the thrift store again today. it was a great day. they stocked, so there were tons of great stuff. there were so many patterned coats and tops and vests. i left rather empty-handed except for an awesome belt.

a studded belt!
it was in a really great condition, all studs were in place, there were no holes (except where it was supposed to be), and it looked really great.
three bucks too, nyeh.

there were TONS of vintage bags too, and all were in relatively great condition except for a few scratches on some. too bad all of the ones that i was lusting and drooling over were too small for a normal school day for me. i wish i snapped a picture though, but the (really crabby) aunties were quite strict about photography. and guess where the bags were located near?

i managed to snap a picture of this carlo rino bag though.

its in a super great condition except for the text, but nothing like a good polishing. bad thing was, it was too small for me to fit my notebook, purse, phone, poddy, and sweater. nyeh, so i didnt get it.

i had a pair of ribbon ballet flats which i never wore after my graduation night in secondary school. i recently dug it out, did some revamping and came out with something resembling espadrilles (just that its flats).

8am schooldays are such a pain. i wake up at 5.30, laze in bed for 10 minutes, stumble out of bed and shower, wear whatever's nearest to me in the peacedrobe (i dont support war-drobe), pack my bag and run for the bus (usually crowded).
i have 3 8am classes this semester too. this sucks. oh well.

recently, i came across a couple of old pictures from baby times right when to the decade when my mum was my age. a few pictures struck me, like the one my mum took with my dad in thailand next to the elephants and dancer and they looked so loving to the ones when they went to the beach.

what i found so cool was the style my mum had back then. right now the stuff we're all wearing are flashbacks of what my mum used to wear when SHE was 18. (that's like 30 years ago)

the photo might not be clear, but arent all old photos unclear anyway. haha. mum says she was at the old sentosa with my dad. i have a picture of my dad with his high-cut highwaisted shorts, but i dont think he allows me to show. it looks really funny heh heh heh.

and then i saw what she was wearing. highwaisted cut offs worn high on her waist, a brown belt and a yellow tank top. woah, dont i have those?

i love it! my mum burst out laughing when she saw me with this. i thrifted this old jeans, real vintage levis for 20 bucks, chopped it and worn it with my tank. perfect fit, i didnt even need a belt.

nyeh, mum says she's prettier last time, especially with her legs.

the weather is so hot nowadays. its really to the point HOT.

top : mum got it, no idea where.

i slashed these jeans yesterday, and wore it to school the entire day today. i guess not everybody's used to slashed jeans like people who like to diy like me, but oh well. i got a lot of mixed reactions.

hey ho, hey ho, it was such a bright and sunny day today. my classes started at 3pm today, so i had a really nice sleep in till 12, then i diy-ed a top, got ready for school, finished school at 5 and still feeling clean and nice.

i love the weather in singapore now. if its too hot, there's always the aircon. but i hate it when it keeps raining.

there's my outfit there. i love the overalls! its comfortable without being too stifling, and i can hop, jump, sit, squat during drama class without feeling the straps falling over my shoulder or the whole outfit being out of proportion. and its so easy when i pee too!

there's my new vintage bag right there. got it online for $15, when i saw something exactly alike at haji lane for $79. the seller's awesome too, and she waited for me at kovan patiently when i went to pick it up.

went to shop with liy and nabs after school and i got my brown oxfords finally. i should really stop buying stuff.

i am exhausted from today's events. went out thrifting with mum, then haji lane (my first time! woah such a loser haha.) and i spent 60 bucks on really random stuff, home to rush and bathe and out for a bbq. now its 1.43am and i'm tired ):

what i wore to lunch at ikea with besties and school for clubbing.

top : cotton on button-down top (mum got it in aussie)

dancing in the school auditorium was a super weird place to dance in. not to mention all the freshmen were wearing the same tees, and the seniors wore whatever they want. awkward, everyone thought i was going to perform on stage (yeah do what, sing? HAHAHAHA)

anyway, check out these awesome vintage dresses that caught my eye from ramona west. it was so gorgeous i will totally kill for it.

by the way, i bought a vintage dress on ebay for 0.99. adding postage, the total comes to 2.99. no shit. i bidded for the second at 6.99, and it looks even more gorgeous. i went to do some research and found that the stuff were authentic vintage apparel. i cant wait to get it (:

speaking of which, i wanted to buy a vintage bag from headoverheelss, but they sold it to someone else even though she said she would save that bag for me. urgh. i'm going shopping for more bags and clothes tomorrow. school's starting, i need to stock my wardrobe!

what i wore today to a facial with my mummy!

top : basic spaghetti top, cotton on denim sweater (yeah, i cropped the sweater to mid-waist. it was really long and frumpy before that).
bottom : denim shorts.
shoes : cotton on gladiators.

the get up is so casual today. yes, i know how i raved in the past about how gladiator sandals are so stupid, how they ought to be burnt, why do girls always want to dress like they're going out to war etc. but i bought this one on sale (cotton on! 70% sale now on.) at 10 bucks. i dont have a pair of sandals anyway, so i just bought it on impulse.
so my verdict would be.. okay luh. its rather comfortable and airy, the only bad thing about it being having to poke the stupid thing through the hole twice on each sandal and its so time-consuming, not to mention annoying. i'm the type that likes the slip-in, slip-out shoe. (: lazy, i know.

by the way, i saw this on this month's Seventeen magazine.

the fringed scarf on the magazine's from Miss Selfridge, at $39. its rather similar to the one i made, except it had beads and the surface area without the fringe is larger.

i made mine using an old blue tee. tee shirt reconstruction, & i save the earth from all the wasted cotton. and a really small fraction of the price!
i might put up a tutorial of the fringe scarf if there are requests. but for now, i'm loving how versatile this fringed scarf is with all my outfits.

my mum says i have really itchy hands. HAHAHAHAHA.

i havent been showing much of my outfits, havent i? plus all the DIY-ed stuff i made.
so i guess i'll be showing some of what i made and what i've been wearing for the past few days. there's still a few odd diy-ed pieces i havent really snapped photos of yet, but i'll show it soon luh, when i'm not too lazy or busy.

i havent been able to dress up that much due to a lot of school commitment, which means i end up wearing a big slouchy tee and fbts, that's it. but there have been stuff that happened that i could dress up for, i feel happy. i can finally have the time to try out all the outfits flooding my head all day!

have you ever kept thinking of what to wear the next day? and you'll fall asleep thinking of what you can pair a highwaisted shorts with. or how a long sleeved dress can go with leggings. or a huge striped stussy jumper with leggings and chuck taylors.

plus, i havent gotten around to wearing my boots ):
oh well, here it goes.

what i wear on cold rainy nights! normal tee and shorts, a really comfy red fox sweater and legwarmers i made from an old supre sweater.

i got a new camera while thrifting around the simei day care centre the other day. its a quad camera that uses regular 35mm film. three bucks, ooo.

but i found photography [even from stupid cameras, like the uncle at the camera shop said] isnt as easy as it looks. first, buying the camera. then buying the film, then clicking the shutter, rolling back the film, clicking again, rolling it back again until all 36 photos are shot, sending it in for developing, finding out that i totally screwed up phototaking and paying 19 bucks PER FILM.

bah. i'm selling it away if anybody wants.

top : diy-ed an old giordano tee. cut the sides, tied into a knot, turned it into a tank. voila, new top!

okay, i'll show you what i finally completed today. i made it out of scraps from the tartan skirt i thrifted [how many times have i used thrifted in this post? oh man i've been shopping at thrift stores too much] the other day at changi.

it was a uk 8 skirt from marks & spencer, waaaayyy too big for me, and waaaayyy too much of a gem not to buy. i showed it to my brother's girlfriend and she wrinkled her nose at the pattern, but i like it so i shall not care about what she thinks.

i'll snap some pictures of the altered skirt another time, but i'll show you what i did with the scraps.

i made a corset! HAHAHAHAHA. granted, it is really not a sexy piece, plus it looks more like a girdle with shoelaces [what the kua?] holding it together.
okay, call me a cheapo. because i am.
HAHAHAHA.
actually, i really really like it, and i will wear it out. it just depends on what i'll wear it with. (:

you know, i dont think this blog is a fashion blog like i planned it out to be. i think i'm too boring. while you see other fashion blogs with all their musings about the latest styles, the latest in everything, while i update with.. my diy stuff and how cheap i am.

excuse my hair. its a bad hair day today.

top : handmade top.
bottom : checkered highwaisted shorts.

remember the highwaisted pants i got from the salvation army at 5 bucks? it didnt fit me well, so i chopped it up and used the remainder of the cloth and made a bag. i'll snap a few pictures of it and put it up soon.

as for the top, it was a plain black tee mummy bought in bulk from giant in many colours. its like 6 bucks each and i got a lot of large sizes so i could play with it.
so i screen-painted the front using spray paint, except that the spray paint was running out so the words are super faded. ): didnt look that bad though. as for the back of the tee, i made a low back cut, cut the remaining of the cloth into strips, tied it together and laced it through the tee. i made the neckline boat-necked and the sleeves shorter too.
i wonder how long these will last with my horrible sewing skills. HAHAHA.

i'm currently on another DIY project! i'm rather proud of it (:

thrifted! i had one in black and white checkered, but i chopped it off into highwaisted shorts and arm-warmers already.

i have no idea why these brands would donate them stocks to the salvation army. how can these not be sold out in hours?

travelled around singapore with mum to go thrift shopping! the whole experience was awesome, i swear. if you mind the dustiness, the slight tangy and musty smell of the shops, due to all the old and vintage-y clothing being donated.
its seriously crazy, sorting through racks and racks of stuff and finding oldies but goodies everywhere. there were tons of brands from zara to esprit, weird and quirky stuff like highwaisted tulip skirts to wedding dresses. heh :D i stocked up on good stuff.

anyway, i'll just let the pictures speak for itself!

there were a lot of awesome bags being sold at the bukit timah branch! you'll see really cool vintage brown bags being sold for 20 or less, and branded stuff like pierre cardin or louis vuitton [yes its real] for 40. but some are missing their sling straps, so unless you dont mind carrying it as a handbag, dont buy it.

my really awesome and young mummy who drove the two of us around and shopped with me. :D she also helped me spotted fakes since i know shit about it.

i found a lot of awesome stuff. because there were a lot of consignment stuff from stores who want to clear stock, they'll just chuck it to the salvation army and they'll put it up for sale.
that's a good deed! not only will salvation army raise funds from it, we'll also get brand new stuff at whoohoo prices.

a pair of leather guess jeans! it was brand new with tag and just sitting there prettily, waiting for someone to snap it up. 20 bucks!

a lot of people donated their wedding gowns too. heh.

brand new consignment shoes from L'Arc. this brand's rather expensive. each pair usually goes for $139 to $150. they're selling at $25 each and 5 for $100 here.

check out the ribbons, and the little cloudy-like shape thing. URGH. their largest was a size 37. yeah it fitted me, but it wasnt snug. didnt get it in the end.

anyway, when you go shopping, you really got to take note of these and be careful.

1. there're tons of fake bags. ask the counter girl, or look for any signs of authencity like the material, the buckle, or the brand insignia. there was a christian dior bag selling for 18, but it turned out to be fake.
2. check out the sizes of the shoes or clothing before buying. there're both vintage and present stuff being sold, and their sizing runs differently. or try it on in the fitting room.
3. check for holes, tears, rusts. i wanted to get this super cute little haversack-ish bag, but turned out there were patches of holes near the zips. ):
4. wear something comfy and small. the fitting rooms are usually makeshift mirrors placed side by side, and usually there's just 1 per store. so you probably might have to try it on the spot.
5. sometimes the previous owner of that pair of shoes may have some foot problem. make sure you buy one that is in really good condition, or brand new.
6. dont buy the underwear unless they come with tags. even then, the place they're stored in is musty!
7. please please please wash all your loot when you go home before wearing them. you'll never know what ah pek has been using it for.
